Embarrassed by excess hair but fed up with having to shave every other day or more frequently to ensure smooth, hair free skin? Tired of expensive and time-consuming trips to the salon for waxing, sugaring or threading? Sick of tweezing stray and embarrassing hairs from odd places and had enough of unsightly and uncomfortable razer bumps and ingrowing hairs? Then laser hair reduction may be the ideal solution for you.

How does laser hair removal work?

Laser hair reduction effectively slows down the growth of hair on the face and body. During the treatment, a laser beam is aimed at the hair via a handheld device. The laser light emitted by the device is absorbed by the pigment and converted to energy, which damages the hair follicle to inhibit and delay regrowth. As hair grows in a three-month cycle, the treatment needs to be repeated every six weeks or so to target each cycle of hair growth.

Laser hair removal can be used on the bikini line, arms and legs, armpits, stomach, back and almost every other area of the body. It can’t be used on the eyebrows or anywhere else near the eyes due to risk of damage to the light-sensitive cornea of the eyes.

The Garden Medical Center offers two types of highly effective and fast laser hair removal procedures:

·        Alexandrite Laser:one of the most widely used laser systems for hair removal, the Alexandrite is extremely versatile, being effective on both fine and coarse hair and for patients with light through to olive toned skin. It also works on larger areas, such as the legs, stomach and back.

·        Nd:YAG Laser: a long pulse laser with a fast repetition rate for the laser beam, it is fast and can cover large areas. Another benefit is that this type of laser can be used on all skin types, including tanned and dark skin with minimal risk of pigmentation and damage to the skin.

Course of treatment: duration and expected results

Most patients will need between six to eight sessions to achieve the best results.  Maintenance treatments are recommended – depending upon the density of hair being treated, up to two sessions per year may be required to remain completely hair-free.
